  1. I didn’t realise you could manipulate product search results, surely they only rank if you get a higher click through rate than anyone else in the list? Secomd thing is Home Leisure Direct seem to be the most expensive there. How does that impact on your click through rate on adwords? Do you feel that people are asavvy enough to work out that it’s the same company?

    Sorry it took me so long to publish your post… didn’t notice it in all the lovely spam I get :)

    I need to be clear that we’re not claiming to be able to ‘manipulate’ results, we just optimised the product feed… I’m pretty sure CTR isn’t the main factor that’s relevant to the position of a product in the Google Shopping results (I’m not sure it’s a factor at all) relevance is far more likely to be the deciding factor.

    It has an impact on AdWords, but since it’s normally a different type of customer who clicks each result (Sponsored, Shopping or ‘Organic’) then it’s not really a problem.

    Yes, I think people are savvy enough to realise it’s the same company if they notice, but it just proves to them that the brand is a strong one, if it appears in all the different bits of Google.
